Fall Cleaning
October 20th, 2008The garage is always a complete mess. Your lucky to be able to walk from the House door to the garage door without bumping into something. It was getting so bad, that when I worked on cars, I could only pull halfway in it was very inconvenient.
Well, this week the Family went to Texas and left me all by lonesome, I took the opportunity to spend some quality time cleaning. My father and I always go back and forth on who makes the mess. He says “Its me not putting away my tools.” I say its him not putting his stuff away. Whenever the Garage gets brought up, the conversation always comes to those two points. I set out to find the truth!
So 9am Saturday morning with my cup-o-Joe in hand, I survey the situation. Pretty darn grim, maybe I should just go home and forget the thought of trying to clean the garage.
As you can see both dad and I had one thing in common about the garage, it was a complete mess. I forgot to get the other side “Before” pictures, but here are the results of my day 1 adventures in cleaning.
I was pretty darn proud of myself, I mounted and categorized 2 shelfs and even put some labeles on the boxes. The paint is with the painting supplies, the misc, household hardware is grouped, there was even a spot for the cleaning supplies.
Day 2 Sunday morning:
Dad’s words kept circling in my head “I don’t put my tools away.” The side of the garage that contained the tools was much more cluttered, but yet a whole previous days worth of cleaning did NOT yield ONE TOOL. The search for the truth continues.
Hey we have a freezer back there? Oh and a much needed file cabinet that is mostly empty way in the corner.
Yes, I’m guilty of re-cluttering the clean side, sacrifices had to be made, it is only a 3 car garage not a 60 bay dealership. (Not Yet 🙂 at least)
Hey my toolbox, I bet you there lays the proof of my Fathers words! Our engine hoist is now accessible, who wants their engine removed?
Ah yes, I think that cabinet will fit above the toolbox and there’s even a bench that I could use to work on some RC helicopters. The bearing press will have to be placed there for now, having it on the bench is much nicer than sitting on the ground and doing the pressing there. How “Depressing.”
Well I found the tool box and yet still no tools.
Will I ever find the answer?
Oh no look, its the dreaded top of my tool box! Every time some work needed to be done, I would push the pile back to gain a little area to work on. The last job was my speakers for the 740il, see the terminal connectors.
And finally we have an answer to our quest. Its not that I did NOT put my tools away, it was that the TOOLS were making the mess! Yes, they were becoming magically animated during the night and messing up the garage. They are like little fairies who can fly who cause havoc and mayhem wherever they go. Dad was right it WAS the tools. You BAD BAD tools!
Yes the garage is clean, but at what cost? I had to throw away the chandelier that has been collecting dust for over 5 years! Dad was a bit distraught over that piece, he mentioned that he was going to clean it and hang it in Great grandma’s house. Sorry Dad, hopefully you can find some forgiveness in that big heart of yours…
And the finish product.
